New: Canvas
Canvas is now on par with what you expect from a vault-compatible board.
- Select, move and resize: drag on the empty board to draw a selection box, Ctrl/Cmd+A selects everything, Shift-click adds or removes a card. Resize a card from any edge or corner; moving a group carries the cards inside it, and cards snap to each other while you drag. A toolbar above the selection sets the colour of the selected cards.
- Arrange: one command tidies a messy selection: align, distribute, arrange in a row, column or grid, and justify.
- Move around a big board: Shift or Space with the wheel or a drag pans; zoom to fit, zoom to the selection or reset the zoom. Jump straight to a group, open a help panel with the shortcuts, and see a grid that scales with the zoom. A settings menu on the board includes read-only mode.
- Menus for everything: card and board context menus convert a text card to a file, swap the file of a file card, narrow a note card to a heading, and manage groups and backgrounds. Add a card from the vault or from a URL, or use the toolbar at the bottom of the board.
- Edges: drag from the handle on a card's side to another card to connect them. Select, delete or reconnect an edge, give it a label, a direction and a colour, and follow a connection to the card on the other end.
- Touch: one finger pans, two fingers pinch-zoom, a long press opens the card or board menu, and a tap selects and shows the selection toolbar.
- Export to PNG: save the whole board or the current view, at a zoom you choose, with the pixel size shown before you export. You can hide all text.
- Every kind of file: PDFs and canvases inside a canvas show as previews, text cards edit
with the note editor, and link cards have their own menu. Renaming a note keeps the file
cards that point to it working, and a malformed
.canvasfile can still be opened and looked at. A new canvas is one click away from an empty workspace.
New: Drag and drop
- Notes, folders and bookmarks onto a canvas: drag a note from the file explorer to add it as a card; a folder becomes one file card per file, laid out in a grid; a bookmark from the bookmarks pane becomes a card too.
- Files from other applications dropped on a board are copied into the vault and placed where you dropped them.
- Drag a tab into the bookmarks pane to bookmark its note.
Changed
- A canvas no longer opens a local graph: the local graph is for notes only.
Faster
- A 500-card, 800-edge board opens and pans smoothly: cards off screen are not drawn, and dragging a card only redraws the edges attached to it.
Fixed
- Canvas resizing: resizing a card from its left or top edge, and a group from its border, works again; the connection handles no longer take over the edge.
- Vault picker: the list of recent vaults appears in one step instead of half-filled.
- Dates: dates with an out-of-range year no longer overflow while being formatted (#22). Found by new fuzz tests, which now run on every pull request and for 30 minutes per target each week.
