Opensidian 0.4 is out
Opensidian 0.4 is out. Get it from the
GitHub release v0.4, or grab the
newest version from the download section. Every release ships a SHA256SUMS
signed with the project key; see verify your download.
New
- RPM for Fedora and .deb for Debian 13 / Ubuntu 26.04. Both pull in their dependencies
and are covered by the signed
SHA256SUMS. - Debian 13 joins Fedora 44 and Ubuntu 26.04 as a tested distribution.
- Official app icon: the amethyst cluster is the launcher and window icon in every package.
- Graph Forces panel on the global graph, with a reset to defaults.
Graph
- The physics follow the stock force model (60 Hz steps, the same repel curve, centre pull, fixed seed), so layouts look like the original.
- The graph starts untangled: new nodes are placed near neighbours that are already laid out.
- Nodes no longer get stuck.
Security
Thanks to Aikido for the audit behind these fixes.
- Every vault write (saves, new notes, link rewrites, moves, deletes, attachment drops,
.obsidianfiles) goes through a handle on the vault folder and never follows symlinks. - Temp files have random names, are created exclusively, then renamed into place.
- The sidebar never walks into a symlinked folder.
- The window can only navigate to the app itself.
- Telemetry records only lengths, counts and timings; never paths, titles or search text.
Huge or hostile notes
- Image embeds load lazily; a note with 20k embeds opens without flooding the loader.
- Live preview builds rows past 2,000 lines on demand.
- Unlinked mentions run in linear time.
- Quotes nested deeper than 32 levels render as plain text.
Desktop and data safety
- The GNOME dock groups the window under the Opensidian launcher with its icon.
- Flatpak: switching vaults and "Open in new window" work.
- A vault switch is cancelled if saving the open note fails, so no edit is lost.
