# Opensidian > Opensidian: open-source, vault-compatible markdown notes app for Linux. Wikilinks, backlinks, graph view and Obsidian themes. Rust + Tauri v2, no Electron. Current version: 0.9.2. GPL-3.0-or-later, non-profit. Opensidian is a clean-room functional clone of Obsidian: it reimplements Obsidian's behaviour from the outside and contains none of its code. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Obsidian or Dynalist Inc. Opensidian opens existing Obsidian vaults (a folder of markdown files plus `.obsidian/`) without converting them. Linux x86_64 builds ship as slim and portable AppImages, a Flatpak, an RPM and a DEB; every release has a GPG-signed `SHA256SUMS`. The full text of this site as markdown is in [llms-full.txt](https://opensidian.org/llms-full.txt). ## Docs - [Install](https://opensidian.org/#install): which Linux package to pick and where it was tested - [Verify your download](https://opensidian.org/#verify-your-download): signing key fingerprint and the gpg/sha256sum commands - [Hacking: build from source](https://opensidian.org/hacking/): system dependencies, Rust toolchain, cargo build - [Licence](https://github.com/jpzk/opensidian#licence): GPL-3.0-or-later and third-party notices - [FAQ](https://opensidian.org/faq/): common questions: vault compatibility, cost, platforms, verifying downloads, themes, plugins - [Security](https://opensidian.org/security/): restricted mode, community plugins, consent for programs and opens, known limitations, reporting a vulnerability - [Compare](https://opensidian.org/vs/): how Opensidian compares with other notes apps, and moving notes over - [Opensidian vs Obsidian](https://opensidian.org/vs/obsidian/): same vault format, licence, platforms, sync, plugins - [Opensidian vs Logseq](https://opensidian.org/vs/logseq/): licence, file formats, the Logseq DB version, opening a graph - [Opensidian vs Tangent Notes](https://opensidian.org/vs/tangent/): two open-source apps with local markdown files - [Opensidian vs OneNote](https://opensidian.org/vs/onenote/): markdown files on disk or cloud-connected notebooks - [Opensidian vs Google Docs](https://opensidian.org/vs/googledocs/): local notes or collaborative online documents - [AI disclosure](https://github.com/jpzk/opensidian#ai-disclosure): how the project was built ## Release notes - [Opensidian 0.9.2 is out](https://opensidian.org/blog/2026-10-31-opensidian-0-9-2/): Community plugins behave as in stock (Templater, Tasks, Dataview, Excalidraw, Obsidian Git), lighter typing, and it runs on Ubuntu 24.04 again. - [Opensidian 0.9.1 is out](https://opensidian.org/blog/opensidian-0-9-1/): Canvas is complete: selection, arranging, edges, touch, drag and drop of notes, folders and bookmarks, PNG export, and smooth 500-card boards. - [Opensidian 0.8.1 is out](https://opensidian.org/blog/opensidian-0-8-1/): Canvas gets undo and redo, copy and paste, rich cards and canvas embeds; unsaved text survives closing a tab or quitting; two security fixes. - [Opensidian 0.8.0 is out](https://opensidian.org/blog/opensidian-0-8-0/): Community plugins run, with a plugin browser and a per-vault trust switch; the editor moves to CodeMirror 6; notes open faster. - [Opensidian 0.6.2 is out](https://opensidian.org/blog/opensidian-0-6-2/): Big vaults index, save and link faster; window, graph and folder state survive a restart. - [Opensidian 0.6.1 is out](https://opensidian.org/blog/opensidian-0-6-1/): Faster edit/reading switch on big notes, PDF embeds, drag-in images, full graph controls. - [Opensidian 0.4 is out](https://opensidian.org/blog/opensidian-0-4/): RPM and .deb packages, Debian 13 support, a graph that lays out like the original, and a round of security fixes from an external audit. - [Opensidian 0.3 is out](https://opensidian.org/blog/opensidian-0-3/): The first signed release.
